Brickhouse Environmental provided consulting and engineering services for a proposed commercial shopping center to evaluate the feasibility of onsite management of wastewater and a new water supply. The proposed shopping center included 80,000 square feet of retail and restaurants on a 15 acre parcel, where public water and sewer facilities were not available.
The investigation included project coordination and management with the civil engineer, desktop surveys, 26 soil test pits and 6 double ring infiltration tests, drilling and construction of 5 groundwater monitoring wells, hydraulic conductivity testing, drilling and construction of two water supply test wells, and the completion of a 48 hour constant rate pumping test.
Brickhouse evaluated all of the data collected, developed an innovative and green approach to manage wastewater through grey water recycling for toilet flushing and fire flows. The design reduces wastewater disposal operations and consumptive groundwater use at the site and the stormwater management system projects the hydrologic balance of the local watershed. Brickhouse prepared final hydrogeologic reports documenting the findings of soils, geologic, and hydrogelogic investigations for the proposed onsite wastewater facilities and onsite water supply well.
