The Tradepoint Atlantic property located in Sparrows Point, MD, formerly the Sparrows Point Steel Mill, is North America’s Largest Brownfield Redevelopment Site. The historical steel mill, once the largest steel production facility in the US, was an integrated iron and steel facility with continuous manufacturing operations beginning in the late 1800s. The steel making operations at the facility ceased in 2012, but the historical operations left a legacy of environmental contamination resulting in a myriad of challenges. The property was identified for participation in the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP), and environmental investigation work began in earnest in late-2014.

ARM Group has been integral to the successful redevelopment of the Point, beginning with the preparation of our Quality Assurance Project Plan (to ensure consistent and reliable investigation techniques), and culminating in the successful construction and occupancy of distribution centers for national companies including Under Armour, Amazon, FedEx, Home Depot, and Floor & Décor, among many others.

The successful redevelopment of the Point has been a combined effort with regulatory oversight from the MDE as well as the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). ARM Group personnel are experienced at reviewing and understanding complex regulatory requirements, and we maintain strong relationships with regulatory staff. Our involvement allows us to remain abreast of new and proposed changes to regulatory programs, including updates to the VCP and other State and Federal programs.
